Introduction to Ichibata Yakushi
Ichibata Yakushi in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, is a Buddhist temple that is widely worshipped as " the medicine Buddha of eye ailments". The temple has a history of 1,100 years. It is a Zen temple belonging to the Rinzai sect (Myoshinji school). It is also the head temple of the Ichibata Yakushi faith that spreads across Western Japan. The main image, Yakushi Nyorai, is a secret Buddha and is not open to the public. Many people have seen improvements in the condition of their eyes, and have benefited both physically and mentally from their belief in Ichibata Yakushi.
"To open one's eyes" does not merely mean "to see with one's eyes", it also means "to see the truth". It is our hope that all who come to worship at the temple will see with great clarity through the mind's eye, and leave feeling physically and spiritually refreshed.
